Not just beautifully written, this memoir tells a very honest experience of how we tend to cope with emotionally unavailable environments as children. One of my favorite parts was how Jennette describes her eating disorder recovery as constant slips that quickly spiral into shame. Shame quickly leads to what her therapist described as "slides", stifling our progress. I try to focus on compassion when slips happen because they're inevitable and shame has rarely been successful in keeping me on track towards my goals. Progress is never linear.
