
Phew. This one was tough to read at first but trust me when I say to keep going. Stephanie Foo’s memoir about healing from complex trauma is such an important example of why therapy is not one size fits all. If something isn’t working for you, I encourage you to keep trying to find what does.
So many great takeaways but one worth remembering: ALL emotions are purposeful AND beneficial. Even the negative ones. “They tell us what we need. Anger inspires action. Sadness is necessary to process grief. Fear helps keep us safe. Completely eradicating these emotions is not just impossible—it’s unhealthy.”
